The Sand: Eye For Film Review

Here is another great review of Mitchel’s latest Film @TheSandMovie¬†written¬†by¬†@EyeForFilm¬†all leading up to the DVD Release on Ocotber 13th. With¬†Halloween just around the corner you might need a new Horror film right?¬†(Amazon Pre-Order).

The Sand

This is a film that gets right to the point. […]

[…]¬†there’s something about these kids that marks them out from the usual monster fodder. It’s that they’re smart. Not geniuses, not amazingly educated, but average rational, thinking people who assess their situation in a sensible way and actually do the things that you, the viewer, think they ought to do, instead of just flapping their arms about and squealing uselessly as most characters do in such situations. This makes it a lot easier to care about them and it also gives the film a snappy pace that guarantees lots of monster action. […]

[…] It takes skill to make a cheesy creature feature well. The Sand is much smarter that it looks on the surface. Give it time and it will pull you in.[..] – written by Jennie Kermode via Eye for Film¬†(@EyeForFilm)

Movie Marker: The Sand Review

Thank you to Stu Greenfield from¬†@MovieMarker¬†for yet another great review of ‘The Sand’!

Film4 Fright Fest Reviews ‚Äď The Sand

[…] All the conventions such as scantily clad girls, epic screams and an outlandish plot with some well-placed humorous touches are evident. Elements of teen horror and creature features are evident with a plot that can be likened to Tremors (ever play ‚Äėthe floor is lava‚Äô as a kid?) or the ridiculousness of Sharknado.[…]

[….] The Sand is a simple yet effective film that is both funny and gory. The required blood splatters and body parts are evident, as are the giggles. The film will definitely have a niche market, as any low budget B-movie styled film will, but there are enough familiar conventions to make this film enjoyable.

FrightFest 2015: The Sand Reviews

After it’s world premiere at @Film4FrightFest in London yesterday¬†¬†‘The Sand’ continues getting positive reviews from critics such as ‘the Hollywood News’ and ‘Front Row Reviews’.

Congrats to the Cast and most importantly to Alex Greenfield & Ben Powell for writing a script that seems to be full of surprises.

You can find links to all Reviews below.

FrightFest 2015: The Sand Review

What you really need to do for Isaac Gabaeff‚Äôs The Sand¬†is sit back, chill out and prepare yourself for a ride of thrills and laughs. […]

[..] what is really great to see of Alex Greenfield & Ben Powell’s script is that they often subvert the characters [..]

[…] The fact that the entire film take places in one small area of a beach without characters coming and leaving is also a testament to the skill of those both in front of and behind the camera. […]

[…] The film also succeeds in carefully balancing humour with thrills; the CGI of bodies being ripped apart as they hit the sand is brilliant, it looks almost real¬†and makes the audience jump back in horror as the film truly gets under the your skin. But this is paralleled against jokes; […]

The Sand is a joy of a film to watch; a throwback to b-movies from generations gone by that like to distort nature and find monsters in the world around.

The Sand review [FrightFest 2015]: ‚ÄúA heap of harmless fun‚ÄĚ

[…] High concept, fun horror and Frightfest have always gone hand in hand, and The¬†Sand¬†is one of this year‚Äôs most fun films. […]

[…] The Sand¬†takes a silly idea and somehow makes it work, helped greatly by the fact that it has got buckets of charm.[…]

While all critics seem to overall enjoy the movie, not everything is said to be perfect and the “negative” criticism focuses on the displayed effects throughout the movie, however¬†“if you look beyond these issues, the film is undeniably a fun distraction […]”.

Frightfest London review: The Sand

[…] Though well-acted, smartly-written and nicely directed by Isaac Gabaeff to ratchet up the tension, The Sand suffers from hit-or-miss CGI effects […]

Frightfest London review: Thumbs-up for The Sand

[…] there is something charming about the film; there is honesty in its excess, and its simplicity becomes its greatest asset, much like the films it pays reverence to.[…]

[…] The effects on display are quite clearly cheap, but luckily the film doesn‚Äôt rely on them, and for most of the film, never commits the sin of showing more than it is capable of, which creates a playful tension between seen and unseen […]

[…] if you look beyond these issues, the film is undeniably a fun distraction full of knowing humour and buoyed by the spirit of B-Movie.
